3.6 Fling machine
In this activity your team will quickly design and build a device that will send a cotton ball as far as possible through the air.

Conclusion:
1. Do you feel that the statistical analysis results would be a better measure of performance when comparing alternate devices than that of the distance traveled by a cotton ball in a single attempt? Answer: I think that statistical analysis results would've surely been a better measurement of performance than the single shot attempt because the statistical analysis would've allowed us to have an average. The single shot is extremely inaccurate because it doesn't account for user errors with each cottonball launch. 2. If you had the opportunity to optimize your design, how would you increase the distance that the cotton ball moves? Answer: To optimize my design & increase the distance, I would change it from a catapult design to a design using blowing air. Designs that used blowing air seemed to have the furthest distances. 3. If you had the opportunity to optimize your design, how would you reduce the amount of materials used? Answer: If I had the to chance to go & optimize my design after conducting my tests, I would use less tape on the design. The amounts of tape most likely affected the distance output. I would reduce the amount of materials by using less tape. 4. How could you have improved the effectiveness of your team? Answer: We could've improved our effectiveness by splitting the work out more evenly & getting exactly what we planned down during the brainstorm session. |
